Bodega Colome 2010 Torrontes – White Wine

Bodega Colome 2010 Torrontes – White WineThe most popular white wine from Argentina, the Torrontés grape is a cross of Muscat of Alexandria and the Mission Grape of Galicia. Today the variety enjoys high popularity with viticulturists, wineries and consumers in Argentina and is beginning to be exported internationally, with good reason. It makes a light, refreshing white wine with Muscat tones redolent of jasmine and orange blossoms.

With classic medium straw-yellow color, the Muscat aromas of jasmine and honeysuckle in this wine progress into concentrated tropical flavors of guava, apricot, kefir lime and ruby grapefruit. Nice weight on the palate and a long and pleasing finish. Charming and complex, this is a delightful match for delicate fish and shellfish, seared Ahi salad, risotto and Asian-influenced cuisine.

Big House 2004 Red – Red Wine

Big House 2004 Red – Red WineAnother break-out hit for the recidivist partisans of this eclectic pan-Mediterranean blend. The varietal mix was altered just a tad this year and introduced a substantial amount of cabernet franc into the concoction. Big House Red is all about fragrance, spice and soft tannins. It has a fragrance of mint and garrigue, with insinuations of blackberry and the ubiquitous framboise. Not a wine that you would want to serve to the Queen (in virtue of its unregenerate rusticity), it is nevertheless a wine that is the perfect complement to barbecue, pasta, pizza and all of the major non-vegan groups.

“…It’s really good, and proves that Randall Grahm continues to march to his own beat…”

Robert Stemmler 2005 Carneros Pinot Noir – Red Wine

Robert Stemmler 2005 Carneros Pinot Noir – Red WineRobert Stemmler’s Estate Pinot Noir is a culmination of the diversities of their property in Carneros. The 2005 is a blend of six different blocks reflecting several soil types, sun exposures, vine age and clones (Martini, Roederer, Calera, Dijon clonal selections.) It is this diversity that creates their most complex Pinot Noir.

This wine shows lifted aromas of pure strawberries and blueberries intermingling with mineral, sage and earth. A lush mouthfeel focusing on wild blackberries with nuances of pepper, mineral and a long fanning finish.
